Post problem using reprap
Hi!
I have fully assembled the reprap Mendel in every part. The problem is that when i unplugge it, the engines blok and emit a high and continuous noise, as if they can't work. The belts aren't too narrow. It happens even when i connect the computer with the usb cable. If i give some commands from the pc it doesn't work anymore.
Can someone help me?
Giulia
p.s.:sorry for my incorrect english

Which host program are you using?

For now I advise you to use the repsnapper program.

When working the machine should stay connected to you PC with USB...

Post Re: problem using reprap
ok i've downladed repstrap typing this in the terminal:
Code:
sudo apt-get install git-core build-essential fluid libgtk2.0-dev libfltk1.1 libfltk1.1-dev libglut3 libglut3-dev libboost-thread-dev libboost-system-dev libconfig8++-dev libconfig8-dev

but than i don't know what to do, do i simply have to connect the motherboard to the pc?

I try to explain better what I've done before:
when i've finished to assembly all the mechanical and electronics parts i tried to plugge it in and the result was the one i've described in the first post. the engine of the x-axis was blocked and emit a high and continuous noise. so i've tried to connect the printer to the pc with the usb cable and i tried to give some commands with the reprap console but it didn't work(the engine always behaves in that way). than i've tried to download arduino and the sanguino addon but also in this way i can't see and command the motherboard (gen 6) from the pc.
Maybe i've forgotten something but i don't know what.

1. Install FTDI drivers
2. Try to use repsnapper

See this link: http://www.mendel-parts.com/downloads.php

This should work...

I'm using ubuntu 10.10 and I'm not able to install repsnapper, is possible with ubuntu?
I download the .zip file and unzip it in home but then I never find an runable file in the unziped folder...
it might be a problem of usb driver?

HI!
I've got some news
I've downloaded and installed repsnapper and the FTDI drivers on windows.
When i connect the reprap to the pc with the usb cable, Windows find a new hardware. But when i try to connect the printer with the green button "connect to printer", it remains light green only for few seconds and than it turns off. The port is com3 (and i think it's correct, anyway with the other ports the light remains light green even less), the speed 19200 (also this i think is correct).
All the electrical connections are ok, i've tested them.
:?: Now, I think that the only possible problem is a software one :?: , i downloaded repsnapper from here: http://svn.kulitorum.com/RepSnapper/MSVC/Release/RepSnapper.exe

I really don't know how to solve... :(

first download the software from camiel if u are using one of his kits.
second point is try open the software with mendel connected and switched on!, look at all the com ports reacheable from repsnapper. than close program. disconnect the mendel. open program again and look what com port is not available anymore... that's your mendel...

If i am connecting to another port that isnt my mendel its getting also green for 2 sec...

you have to install the ftdi first... in w7 rightclick install as admin or so...
If it's one of the first gen6 he's making some quick noise when connected...(stop making the motor squeeze noise...)
on the print page you can enable temperature and see the temperature changing...

i hope it will work for you...
