Right now I have both the fan and heated print bed hard-wired. I would like to connect them to my Gen 6 board so I can turn the fan and bed on or off using Gcode.

I am guessing they can be wired to the connections circled in red below. Can somebody explain what these connectors are for and how to wire-up a cooling fan and heated printbed?

But the question was not really answered. Can anybody explain what hardware and firmware changes are needed to get this to work.

The ICSP connector on a GEN6 is for talking to other device that understand ICSP. You cannot control a Fan or Heated print bed directly from it.

I have a design for an extension card that will, but have not yet prototyped it, or modified Marlin to use it.

I currently run both my Fan and Heated bed straight from a 12volt supply and manually switch them on and off.
