Post some probs with printing on Orca .2 / gcode viewer / slic3r
Hi,

I've got my Orca .2 printing since yesterday (.35 nozzle), but experiencing some problems: I am using the software set-up + 1.75mm slow profile from the mendel-parts.com download.
If I print the 1_small_testblock_export.gcode from test-print dir, it prints to fast and I am experiencing problems, if I use skeinforge with slow-profile; the gcode comes out ok.
I then tried some examples from thingiverse.com, skeined them; but there I experience problems; the 5-6 layers print ok, the everything shifts a few mils to the right & above ...
Other smaller prints do come out correctly ?! Is this my printer or corrupt gcode ? How should I test this ?

Is their a way I can test/view the gcode before I print ?

Does some-one have the settings for Slic3r for an Orca .2 with 1.75mm .35 nozzle ?

I'd like to compare gcodes generated with different skeiners to see whether it occurs in both cases ?

thx,

Chris

The only thing you have to do in slic3r is the nozle and the filament diameter. The other parts you can leave it.

One thing i have perhaps for your Problem, i have on my laptop slic3r version 0.5.7 (linux) installed and it works perfect (the older versions too). On my normal Computer i wanted to run slic3r also, but when i installed the newest Windows version (I have Win7 64bit), it shows me the 0.5.8beta and with this version i don't get good gcodes.

Christian,

When I set Nozzle to 0.35 and Filament to 1.75 mm; and want to slice; I get an error-message: '--layer-height can't be greater than -- than nozzle-diameter' !
Seems logical; for the default 0.5 nozzle-setting it was 0.4 mm; that's 80% of 0.5 - I assume that I should use 80% of 0.35 = 0.28 mm ?

I'll only change the above and set temp to 250 and see what happens !

thx,

Chris

I did some testing today; a simple box prints ok - if I print something complex, the print goes wrong; it moves to far in a certain direction and continues with the print !
My initial thought was that the Gcode was corrupt; but on it looks correct on pronterface ?
So either computer is not sending out the correct commands or it is too slow ? (I am using an old netbook with an Intel Atom under Win 7 - I will test this tomorrow with task-manager)
Or I have problems with the USB-interface or cable
Or the GEN6-board is giving problems ? I've read something about over-heating, but this was only with high-speed print-settings and/or setting the voltage higher for the stepper-motors (I did not change the pot-setting; still at the 9-3 o'clock setting).
But I'll run a test with a fan.

If you had similar issues and found the solution for it; I'd like your input ?!

Another thing to check is if you have any mechanical slippage, this would occur more on the complex shapes as the head is moving back and forth much more. It may print fine for a few layers, then it will slip, and the x or y or both (unlikely to be both, especially at the same time) would be out of position.

You can print lower then 0.28. I print with 0.1 layer height.

I recognise the problems with the displacement of the extruder. I have it only with complex geometry.
Simple object are no problem.

a slic3r config.ini setting for a orca .3 >> filament 1.75 nozzel .35 layer hight .2 extruder temp 220° set by start code.

bottom_layer_speed_ratio = 0.6
bridge_flow_ratio = 1
bridge_speed = 50
duplicate_distance = 6
duplicate_x = 1
duplicate_y = 1
end_gcode = G28 X0 ; home X axis\nM84 ; disable motors
extrusion_axis = E
extrusion_multiplier = 1
extrusion_width_ratio = 1.6
filament_diameter = 1.75
fill_angle = 45
fill_density = 0.3
fill_pattern = line
first_layer_height_ratio = 1
g0 = 0
gcode_arcs = 0
gcode_comments = 0
infill_every_layers = 1
infill_speed = 50
layer_height = 0.2
nozzle_diameter = 0.35
perimeter_speed = 35
perimeters = 3
print_center = 100,100
retract_before_travel = 2
retract_length = 1
retract_lift = 0
retract_restart_extra = 0
retract_speed = 30
rotate = 0
scale = 1
skirt_distance = 6
skirt_height = 1
skirts = 1
small_perimeter_speed = 35
solid_fill_pattern = rectilinear
solid_infill_speed = 35
solid_layers = 3
start_gcode = M104 S 220 ; turn on temperature\nG28 ; home all axes
temperature = 220
travel_speed = 130
use_relative_e_distances = 0
z_offset = 0

Mayby this can help you.

Have you checked / calibrated the extruder. My printer it was 30% to low.

I had a problem with my Prusa using GEN6. It would print fine for a few layers then suddenly the print would offset in the Y direction for 10 mm or so, then the next lay would be off by some distance and the layer after a different offset.

Adding a fan to cool the GEN6 board cured this. Try touching the driver chips and seeing how hot they are getting.

Geoff,

that is exactly what is happening with my Orca; I will have some time this weekend; I'll get a fan and mount it.

Probably not too much use if you currently can't print well, and it depends where you mount your GEN6, but this might be useful. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:13469
