2) Never, EVER retract PLA when shutting down the machine. It just draws molten plastic into the cool part of the hot end, where it solidifies, and you're stuck forever. If you HAVE done this, then you'll have to strip down the hot end, and drill out the plastic (very carefully: one time I did it I snapped the drill off inside the brass tube! I'd like to order a spare from Camiel, but he's not talking to me, so I'll have to find a way of making a spare, maybe using an Afghan lathe and a brass M6 bolt:

This was exactly what happened to me. Since mendel-parts seem to not respond to any message nor send the things I have ordered to repair the machine I am going to try to modify the Orca with a universal mini extruder instead.

Can you give us the URL where you are getting it from?

BTW, check the website: he's still alive!

Yes, I just read his blog. I have an order with him I would like to cancel, but on the other hand, I think that I will give him a few more days to ship. If I can get the spare parts I would have at least to extruders which probably would be handy the next time I break something ;) The next time plastic is stuck in the brass I think it may be worth trying to leaving it in acetone over night.

I got it from http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RepRap-Univer ... 500wt_1170
I placed the order 24th and it was shipped 26th (saturday). I expect that I will have it today or tomorrow. This device is quite well-documented on reprap wiki page: http://reprap.org/wiki/RepRap_Universal_Mini_Extruder
and with a bit of luck it is possible to modify the carriage such that you still can use the V9 hotend if you at a later time would redecide.

Just wanted to let you know that I during the christmas holidays managed to install the universal extruder. To install the extruder you just need to make to extra holes in slide for the extruder. Everything works and I am now printing :D

Best,
